A series of new bookstores in Shanghai opened during the Christmas and New Year holidays, showing a budding new ecology for brick-and-mortar literary shopping.

The first to open was the Tsukaya Bookstore at Columbia Circle in Changning district. This is the first store in Shanghai from Tsutaya Books, the largest bookstore chain in Japan.
